Where to buy

The album "Grouse in the Heather" is an unusual entity in that it is funded entirely by Marcus himself. This was to allow him complete artistic freedom over his material, something all artists desire. For this reason, one of the outlets he is using is the Internet to sell his brainchild.

My CDs can be bought direct from myself.

Rabharta’ can mean both ‘spring tide’ or ‘flood’ and also ‘a full blast of music or song’; Feenish itself is the name of an island off the Connemara coast

Marcus has been drawing from the well of traditional music for 30 years and this album is his way of replenishing and contributing to the source. Traditional music is a river, a continuing flow which traditional musicians draw from and which musicians must contribute to in order to maintain the flow for the next generation.

When asked "Why birds?". "Well, why not birds?" They are a creature whose name is frequently used as the names for tunes; "The Blackbird", "Cuckoo's Nest", "Pigeon on the Gate", "Lark in the Morning" and "Swallow's Tail". Giving tunes birds' names is a long standing tradition in Irish traditional music. One can speculate as to why this is. Perhaps it is in the variety of sounds that birds produe, perhaps it is in their soaring and freedom. Who knows? Creation has its own mystery.

Marcus can stand outside his house and hear a myriad of bird songs. This is not to say that any of the tunes are based on any one bird, but who is to say that some of the tunes had their genesis in the song of a robin?
